Chief Distribution Officer

Jay D'Aprile

Executive Vice President

Mutual Life Insurance Company

Position Summary:

The Chief Distribution Officer (CDO) is responsible for developing and leading a modern, hybrid career agency system, supplemented by the BGA channel. This role requires strategic vision, cross-functional collaboration, data-driven analytics, and leadership in sales compensation, producer recruiting, development, and training. The company is seeking a new Chief Distribution Officer to impact three growth vectors: organic growth, mergers, and transformation. While the company has experienced success with organic growth, the company needs to fundamentally change the distribution model. This includes rebuilding the distribution system from the ground up, particularly to serve its target market in rural America—towns with 20,000 or fewer people that aren’t connected to big cities.

The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 10 years in a career agency system. Brokerage General Agency (BGA) experience is highly desirable. They should have extensive experience in managing and growing a career agent distribution channel. The successful candidate will oversee a network of around 200 agents, with a significant portion of sales driven by top performers. The goal is to set up producer groups with limited benefits and exclusivity, eventually expanding the product line and having a high-performing agent planted in the community and giving them the tools and guidance to grow the business. Experience in focusing on rural markets is highly desirable, as the role requires significant travel and direct engagement with community leaders and agents across these markets: OH, MI, IN, IL, WI, MN, IA, ND, SD, NE, KS, OK, and TX.
